Marble possesses characteristics which make it suitable for all parts of the house: it's hygenic, doesn't trap dirt and doesn't allow mold to form. Since time immemorial, marble has been used for baths and kitchens. Today, thanks to new techniques in processing, it has become more economically accessable.
Flooring
The most visible part of the house is the flooring: it is the starting point which adds a sense of style to the whole decor. And a marble floor, most certainly creates a sense of refinement, adding a touch of presitge to the entire house. As well as its aesthetic appeal, marble is also practical: in fact all that is needed are a few appliances to keep it clean and polished. It is also possible with the right equipment, to polish up old floors and restore them back to their original shine.
The Kitchen
For kitchen countertops it is advisable to use either white or grey marble, Carrara marble in particular. On the otherhand for a longer lasting countertop, from an aesthetic point of view, Granite is the choice. It keeps its shine longer, and is very resistant to acids and other chemical substances in general use in the kitchen.
The Bathroom
It is advisabe to use a porous material in this area, as bathrooms will always have a high level of humidity. Granite and Italian white marble from the Apuan area are good choices, and Breccia with its compact granularity, as well as other coloured marbles.
Marble has always been a highly prized and trustworthy material for home interiors and over time, it even improves with age. |
